I'm just a normal weirdo Gen X guy in his middle 50s. Sort of grew up secular, went to christian fundie school for a year to avoid getting bused to the wrong side of city in the 80s. Nerdy white stoner kid that I was I would have had the shit kicked out of me, my view on other people is a-holes come in all shapes and sizes. Basically don't be a dick and hope other people follow the same rule usually works for me.
My folks came from catholic families, I think my one grandmother went to her grave thinking I was a premmie *lol*. The grandfather on that side of the family sort of gave up going to church after she died. He was a bootlegger back during prohibition and went into law enforcement. It kept him home side during WWII, so got to hear some stories about some of the 5th column stuff that went on (East Coast). He lived long enough so I got to spend time with him as an adult in my 20s. My father (his son) is a conservative, so Pops, my brother and mean would call bullshit on him all the time.
Hollywood sucks anymore, no one can write a decent script (story or character). It's content not "entertainment", I have a better time watching a 20 minutes short film on YT (say DUST channel) or from some small studio or some indy folks than I do watching a major studio release. Well Dune has been freaking great but that is because it's a love letter to the source material rather than using it as toilet paper by "adapting" it or "basing" it on. Granted changing media you need to change elements because the media has changed, timing and other conventions are different. Dune has a ton of internal monologue and introspection so it was hard to film from the get go.
I'm a food snob, but I put my money when my mouth is. I'll make my own bread, pizza, and ice cream but at the same time when I just something to stuff my face use a Jiffy mix and tweak it up a bit. It's not just about what you can do with fancy gizmos, it's also about "it's two days till payday and I'm down to scraps in the pantry but need to make something that will taste decent". Also if you have a medicinal card in your state it can help you make edibles just like your Italian granny used to make .
