Christianity As An Abusive Relationship

    you're nothing without me.jpg

FanOfNeri did the math to find Bible verses supporting EVERY ONE OF THESE ABUSIVE SENTIMENTS. I'll let him take it away:

    ------------------------------------------

So, I went trying to find verses (no context) that would fit each line of this meme:

    You're NOTHING without me.
Galatians 6:3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
John 15:4-5 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

If you even think about leaving me...
Matthew 25:41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”
Romans 2:3 “Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?”
Matthew 25:46 “And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

    You don't DESERVE me
Ephesians 2:8(AMP), "For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God;"

You'll never find ANYONE as good as me
Psalm 92:15, "To declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him."
Mark 10:18, Luke 18:19, "And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone."

    YOU brought this upon yourself
1 Corinthians 11:29, "For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves."
Romans 5:14, "Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come."
Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

    I know best
Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;"
Isaiah 55:9, "“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

You're a HORRIBLE person and you need me to be better
Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,".

You're not WORTHY of my love
Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," again.

I'm only doing this because I LOVE you.
Hebrews 12:6, "because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.""
Proverbs 3:11-12, "My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth."
Psalm 119:75, "I know, O LORD, that Your judgments are righteous, And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me."
Revelation 3:19, "'Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent."

Don't listen to ANYONE who doesn't understand what we have.
Psalm 14:1, "The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good."

Also while finding this stuff, here's some other interesting things I found:
On being nothing without God, I found this awful trailer:

Catholic Answers video, "Answering Atheism: You don't need God to be a good person". It has the most pretentious music trying to make this guy sound intellectual as he basically says "MORAL RELATIVISM" over and over while shilling his book.

    --------------------

    Cas speaking:

So yes. It's not our imagination. At its heart, Christianity functions as an abusive relationship. And the more fervent the adherents and the more extremist their beliefs, the more abusive it gets.
