How Christian leaders fleece their sheep

It always makes me boggle when I hear Christians comparing themselves to sheep. It’s like they have no idea why shepherds keep sheep: for their fleece, their milk, and their meat. There’s a fundamental disconnect there between fantasy and reality, but the disconnect is hardly new. And that disconnect richly serves the interests of the people benefiting from all that fleece.

The Christian’s Guide to Ex-Christians: False Compromises

Last time we hung out, I touched briefly on why I don’t feel that accommodation is the way to go regarding Christian overreach into the public sphere. I want to expand on that some more. Right now America is going through a really tough time with the Republican Party falsely Read more

The Christian’s Guide to Ex-Christians: Please Quit Threatening People.

You’d think that the proselytization process for a “god of love” and a “prince of peace” would involve, I don’t know, sharing good news about his easy yoke and light burden or something. Maybe sumpin-sumpin about all the miracles his people think he’s done. Well, you’d be surprised. At the Read more

The Christian’s Guide to Ex-Christians: Hoping We’re Wrong.

Excellent dialogue earlier, folks, by the way, I want to say again. I mean this: you are the best comment gang on the internet. I appreciate you all so much. Wonderful, wonderful job keeping things civil and productive. I had an interesting exchange today with a rather belligerent young Christian Read more

Population Decline: Losing the plot (and plotting the loss)

You know, every so often right when I think that toxic Christians are starting to catch on to how obvious it is to outsiders that they want to control all the rest of us, they top themselves with a new entry in that “I cannot believe they said that” contest Read more

The Christian’s Guide to Ex-Christians: (You’re All) Genuine Christians. (Okay?)

Fred Phelps thinks he’s one. So does Brother Jed, the Pope, Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyer, and Eddie Long. So did Biff. So did I. So does every Christian. If you just said “I’ll take ‘TRUE CHRISTIAN’ for $200,” you already understand. Unfortunately, not everybody does. It’s one of the favorite Read more

Tony Anthony: The Cult of Before Stories got a new member last month!

One of my earliest blog entries, A Cult of “Before” Stories, remains one of the most-often-viewed pages on the entire blog (thanks, RationalWiki readers!). It was about how my preacher ex-husband Biff, as well as other Christians including the very well-known-at-the-time Mike Warnke, lied constantly while telling his “testimony” (for Read more

The Christian’s Guide to Ex-Christians: (Yes, They’re In Decline)

The sky is falling, but Christians are looking at the ground to find out why. Today, let me show you some facts about their decline–and why they don’t want to deal with the truth of it. The Decline: In Full Swing. Check out this fascinating article from a Christian news Read more

The Christian’s Guide to Ex-Christians: Look, This Isn’t That Hard to Understand.

The sky is falling, but Christians are looking at the ground to find out why. Check out this fascinating article from a Christian news site about young people who are leaving their religion in record numbers. The news was even worse than I’d originally thought and it looks like things Read more

Godly Messages: You’ve Got Mail!

Christians like to think their god talks to them. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Because they lack real communication, they must rely on signs and portents. Today, I’ll show you why that notion backfires so hard.
