That tribe cannot and will not change its collective opinions about marriage and family. That’s why it’s so much easier for its Mark Ballenger types to dump all this emotional ego-searching on the people who can’t fit into that life script.
Technology has nothing to do with evangelicals’ lack of wisdom or their disobedience. We can lay both of those problems at the feet of evangelicalism itself.

A long time ago, I talked about the way that evangelicals redefine common words. Their redefinition of love figured prominently on that list. That was nearly ten years ago. And today, I see that they’re still redefining that word.
Christians are very good at not having ears to hear when it comes to understanding dealbreakers in their own faith. I’ve no doubt they’ve noticed how often hypocritical Christians show up in ex-Christians’ stories and how often non-Christians talk about the topic. But they haven’t really figured out why Bad Christians are a problem.
Unlearning all the faulty logic and pseudoscience I’d learned while Christian was tough. But I had a much tougher time with unlearning how I’d learned how to learn and what knowing something actually means. I’d thought I had a handle on how to assess and absorb knowledge, but I was completely wrong.
