‘Before You Lose Your Faith’ offers the dumbest reasons (and non-solutions) imaginable for deconversion

The writers offer the hands-down dumbest reasons imaginable to leave evangelicalism. And then, having done that, they offer the dumbest reason imaginable to resolve this supposedly-drastic problem.

I'm glad there's no evidence at all that this could happen

‘Non-ambiguous evidence,’ support for claims, and the Christians projecting their own dishonesty onto others

I’m nowhere near as dishonest as Christians are. If I ever encountered real evidence to support the existence of the god depicted in the Bible, I would embrace it immediately.

‘Before You Lose Your Faith’ review: Evangelicals really, REALLY want to set the terms for deconstruction

It’s been very interesting to see how dysfunctional authoritarians approach deconstruction in other Christians, especially with regard to how they’ve dealt with doubt over the past 10 or 12 years.

Hocus Pocus 2: Why Christians are getting hung up on the Satanic Panic again

Last week, a Texas mother named Jamie Gooch tried to beat the Satanic Panic drum over a silly movie called Hocus Pocus 2. In a now-iconic interview, she told her Troy, Texas news affiliate KWTX all about it: “A worst case scenario is: you unleash hell on your kids and Read more

How to tell if you’re a TRUE CHRISTIAN™, according to TRUE CHRISTIANS™

The simple truth of the matter is that every Christian is a TRUE CHRISTIAN™ — because none of them really are.

Christians think they don’t change their message—it changes them, except they do and it doesn’t

Out of every bit of Christianese I’ve heard lately, this might be one of the chirpiest and most annoying.

Prayer: Why Christians always ‘forget to pray’

If prayer worked even in the bastardized way that Southern Baptists think it works, nobody’d ever need reminding to do it.

Just Christian Things: Confusing wisdom with self-discipline, then failing to offer a roadmap for cultivating either quality

Technology has nothing to do with evangelicals’ lack of wisdom or their disobedience. We can lay both of those problems at the feet of evangelicalism itself.

Confuse ’em and lose ’em: Christian thought stoppers

Thought stoppers are super-meaningful-sounding statements that don’t actually say anything substantive–and can’t really even be defined at all. The further into wackadoodlery a flavor of Christianity is, the more thought stoppers we’ll find there, and for good reason.

The bait and switch of the ‘Bad Christians’ accusation

Christians are very good at not having ears to hear when it comes to understanding dealbreakers in their own faith. I’ve no doubt they’ve noticed how often hypocritical Christians show up in ex-Christians’ stories and how often non-Christians talk about the topic. But they haven’t really figured out why Bad Christians are a problem.
