Hi friends!

I’m still struggling with health issues, but I wanted to share something with you that made me smile today. I’m researching a post about evangelists looking for captive audiences, and thought of something a community member said the other day: If someone tried to preach at him on a plane or somewhere he couldn’t just get up and leave from, he’d start a sing-along.

That got me wondering what song would work best. I landed on Green Day’s “Basket Case,” just because it seems like everyone over the age of 30 knows it. Plus, I can probably carry it better than anything else I could suggest.

Of course, I mean “carry it better” only in the loosest possible sense of “people might be able to identify just what song I’m butchering in the first place,” which isn’t always certain when I sing. I once told someone, “I sing like nobody’s listening,” and he said I’ve definitely got that part nailed. Yr Loyal Corr. &c. is not a fantastic singer, is what I mean. But I’m happy to make myself look a little silly to drown out an ego-driven evangelist. It’s for the greater good (the greater good).

Also of course, my preliminary research indicates it wouldn’t be necessary anyway, because airlines seem to be paying more attention to this highly intrusive, disruptive behavior. But just in case, if you need to brush up, here’s “Basket Case” by Green Day.

Other options: “Carry On My Wayward Son” by Kansas.

Or a little “Bohemian Rhapsody” perhaps?

Or even “Don’t Stop Believing”!

In other news

I’ve been pecking away at OPERATION LEGACY LIBRARY too, focusing on the posts that are getting the most eyes on them lately. I’m not just setting old migration-script links aright, but also making sure pictures are intact, outgoing links and video embeds work, tags set properly, etc. Want to see some of my past favorites?

Forgotten gods: Back when we buried Summanus’ lightning

Seeking answers: The day I found my guru on the mountaintop

Why music manipulates Christians so easily (btw, this one is now by far the most popular post in the entire tag, outpacing even the Gracepoint Church posts; whoever is spreading the link, thank you!)

Life isn’t respawn. It’s permadeath

I’ve currently worked my way through almost 10% of the backlog. If you wanna check it out, here’s the tag I’m using to keep track of my progress!

Have a wonderful evening, friends. Thank you for your patience. I’m always thinking about you and about this journey. I will be back in full action as soon as I can.

PS: What song would you start with on the plane? We’ve had some fantastic suggestions from the Patreon – including “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall” and “Bingo” (the clapping song about the dog)!
