Calvinism / Calvinists / Reformed Theology

There are, of course, subtle differences between Calvinists and Reformed Theology evangelicals. But for our purposes, I treat them as interchangeable terms. Both describe an add-on DLC for evangelicalism that somehow makes it even more high-control—and, along with that more controlling streak, far more cruel and abuse-prone.

‘Before You Lose Your Faith’ loses all illusions of good-faith acting

How ‘Before You Lose Your Faith’ fails to solve the Problem of Hell

We’re now on Chapter 12 of Before You Lose Your Faith. In this chapter, Joshua Ryan Butler tries—and utterly fails—to solve the eternal thorn in Hell-believing Christians’ side: The Problem of Hell. There’s a good reason why these thorns get capitalized names, of course. No Hell-believer has ever managed to Read more

‘Before You Lose Your Faith’ review: Evangelicals really, REALLY want to set the terms for deconstruction

It’s been very interesting to see how dysfunctional authoritarians approach deconstruction in other Christians, especially with regard to how they’ve dealt with doubt over the past 10 or 12 years.

Matt Chandler, yet another hardline evangelical, has fallen like so many others

Well, well, well. The leader of The Village Church (TVC), Matt Chandler, has finally gotten caught doing something off-limits enough to his church board that he had to take a leave of absence. I’m sure the stories about it vastly minimize what actually happened, but nobody will be shocked to Read more

Calvinists, on Why People Dislike Calvinists

Recently, I discovered that Calvinists themselves have caught on to outsiders’ near-universal dislike of them. But as usual for extremists, Calvinists’ utter lack of self-awareness has led them to some really wacky conclusions about why that dislike exists.

‘American Gospel’ accused of being Calvinist propaganda

Hi and welcome back! Last weekend, we watched American Gospel: Christ Alone. It’s a documentary about the true and accurate form of the Gospel, presented by a group of Christians who think they’ve got it right. Immediately after its release, other Christians who disagreed with them went on the attack. One of Read more
